Woman Has Allergic Reaction At Work - While In Ambulance, Boss Texts That She Is Fired

Danielle Duperreault posted on Facebook about recently being fired from the clothing store Urban Planet in Saskatoon, Canada.

“And you all would probably think it would be over tardiness or not doing my job and so on and forth,” Duperreault noted. “But today I came into contact with bell peppers, something I am severely allergic to.”

Duperreault felt herself going into anaphylactic shock, so she called a manager for help, but the manager would not call an ambulance and actually seemed annoyed by the whole incident.

Fortunately, she was met in the parking lot by a friend who also worked at the Urban Planet. The friend immediately drove her to a nearby clinic to get an epinephrine injection. Dupperault was then rushed by ambulance to a hospital.

Duperreault told the media in an interview that she has several allergies, and usually has an EpiPen with her, but didn’t have her EpiPen that day.

“The doctors said if I would have waited another ten minutes I would be dead,” Duperreault noted in her post.

To add insult to injury, on the way to the hospital, Duperreault received a text from her manager telling her she was fired.

The friend and co-worker who assisted Duperreault also got a text telling her she’d been fired.

Duperreault asked her Facebook network to spread the word about how to deal with allergy emergencies at work.

To date, her Facebook post has been shared over 10,000 times.

Y.M. Inc., the owner of Urban Planet, released a statement to the media that the CEO has personally apologized to Duperreault for the incident.

“We have thoroughly investigated this. Simply put, the actions were unacceptable,” a spokesperson noted.

Duperreault told a Canadian media outlet that the company had agreed to pay her until she found a new job, and she was grateful for their understanding.

“That’s more than I could’ve asked for,” she pointed out.
