Has Alexander Wang Gone Too Far with His Provocative Ads?

Alexander Wang’s new denim ads show a naked shiny woman with her pants around her calves.

Wang said the ads, including one of a woman covering her crotch apparently about to masturbate, are meant to “provoke conversation.”

Yawn!

If the conversation is how lame and unoriginal exploiting women’s bodies in the name of selling stuff or provocation is then high five Wang. You’ve succeeded!

I know you’re the creative director and all for Balenciaga and that H&M chose you to create a line for them, but sorry Wang…this has been done. Over and over and over again.

Wang’s argument, according to The Huffington Post, is that he’s not just trying to sell sex.

“It’s not provocative just in terms of sexy, but provocative to provoke conversation," he told Women’s Wear Daily, The Huffington Post reports.

“I’m not dictating what that message is exactly. The interesting part is to see how people interpret it, and what they have to say about it. Of course, there are going to be people who disagree with it.”

I disagree with you thinking that this is actually racy or ground breaking.

We’ve seen designers exploit the female body to sell their stuff, as The Huffington Post points out, Calvin Klein’s been doing it for years, and, quite frankly, we’re over it.
