Apparently, Michelle Obama Is Getting In On The New "Athleisure" Clothing Trend

In this fast-paced day and age, more and more people are catching on to the 'athleisure' trend. After all, who has time to stop and change anymore? The latest fashion trend features clothing that is made for both your daily business as well as the gym. You can go from work to your yoga class, or head straight out for a jog after that PTA meeting. Think jazzed-up workout clothes.

Not surprisingly, trendsetter and former First Lady Michelle Obama, a busy wife, mother and social activist, has adopted the style. Considering she always seems on the go, it's very fitting.

It wouldn't be the first time the former first lady jumped in early on a fashion trend. She's popularized many trends herself. Think back to 2008, when she first appeared on the scene with her sleeveless dresses. The juxtaposition of her perfectly toned arms and her romantic, flowing dress style made a statement about exactly what a woman can be: strong and powerful, while still feminine and lovely.

Mrs. Obama also made fashion statements with bold accessories. She'd wear a simple frock and jazz it up with a big belt or large, sparkling jewelry. Michelle also had a thing for bold prints and a real flair for mixing and matching prints. She almost single-handedly brought back the cardigan as well, leaving many to wonder exactly why they had allowed such a versatile garment make its way to the back of the closet, only to see the light of day on chilly autumn Saturdays around the house.

Michelle Obama was never married to just one designer. She frequently mixed and matched, even pairing some 'high fashion' garments with some more casual, affordable choices. Like any woman, she loved a bargain. In a famous interview with Oprah, before she left the White House, one thing Michelle said she was looking forward to doing again when her husband’s second term came to an end was going shopping at Target.

Now that her days in the White House are behind her, Mrs. Obama is joining the athleisure movement. She was spotted hiking through the Tuscan countryside on her recent trip to Italy wearing a stylish Under Armour ensemble. Michelle paired a soft lilac racerback top with paneled Fly-By Printed striped leggings. She topped off the look with a simple black cap and walking shoes.

In addition to her fashion sense, Michelle is known for her dedication to fitness. She worked tirelessly as first lady to improve nutritional guidelines for school lunches and to inspire kids with her ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign that promoted physical activity. This is why it’s probably not at all surprising that workout-comfy clothing is her new style of choice.

Athleisure clothing is simply comfortable and functional, with its breathable, lightweight fabrics made to stretch and look good. Now that Michelle Obama is wearing it, you can expect the trend to take off even further. It might be time for a shopping trip.
