Who Will Lead The Trend When It Comes To Sporting Transparent Jeans?

Is there any fashion trend that has lived as long or proved as popular as jeans? Blue jeans have been around for centuries, but they took off in the 1950s and the world has never looked back. Whether you liked them tapered or flared, brand new or ripped, dark or light, jeans have been a wardrobe staple for decades.

Every decade, it seems that there is always some new, innovative fashion designer who tries to put his or her own spin on jeans. Some new styles coming to a website near you might have you cringing, or applauding, depending on your taste.

Topshop really took a pounding recently when they presented to the world their 'Clear Panel Mom Jeans'. So-called 'mom-jeans' are typically high waisted and a bit frumpy looking, but Topshop decided it would spiff them up a bit if they added clear plastic panels in the knees of the jeans.

Just what the panels were for, no one really knows. And apparently, moms are not looking to show off their bare knees. An unfortunate side effect is that the clear plastic panels tend to steam up when the wearer gets a bit hot and sweaty, which is inevitable when you're covered in plastic. The jeans were a huge flop.

Topshop is trying to outdo itself now by making completely translucent plastic jeans. “Think outside the box with these out-of-the-ordinary clear plastic jeans — guaranteed to get people talking," the company says in the ad on its website. "In a straight leg cut, they feature classic pockets detailing and are cropped at the ankle bone. Ideal as a statement piece for a festival or costume party, take the look to the extreme with a bikini and sequin jacket or dress down, layered under an oversized jumper or asymmetric hem dress.”

Topshop isn't the only company trying to take jeans to the next level. French brand Vetements has introduced jeans with a zipper strategically placed in the back. Known as 'Bare Butt' jeans, the zipper allows the wearer to show off what could only be considered 'butt cleavage'.

Coachella's jeans may take the cake, however. Ryan Destiny, star of the Fox show Star, tweeted an image of herself wearing their one-legged jeans.

Imagine if you took a pair of jeans and cut them in half right up the crotch. Then imagine throwing half of the jeans away, putting on the other half, and threading a belt through it to hold it up. Yep, that's it.

Crazy jean styles may come and go, but thankfully, the classics never die.
