R.I.P. Supermodel Daul Kim

Daul Kim, 20, a South Korean supermodel, (also known as the “Korean Kate Moss”) was mysteriously found dead November 19th in her Paris apartment. This rising star’s sudden death has caused a lot of controversy in the fashion world because Daul’s career has just peaked, you may recognize the Kim from Christopher Kane’s Topshop ads. The model was found hanged, in what looked to be a suicide. Autopsy results have ruled out murder as the cause of death. Her parents refuse to believe she would take her own life and others beg to differ because Daul contacted a friend to speak up about her abusive relationship hours before the top model’s body was discovered by her boyfriend. Her agency, Next Model Management spoke out last week saying, “She was not able to live the normal life other girls live at her age.
We felt she felt confused and lost after reaching the top of her career.”

Daul was battling depression, proven in her previous blogs about freedom and lonliness, but it’s a tragic ending to such a beautiful woman’s story. We pray for her family and hope that Daul has found the peace and happiness she was looking for. Rest In Peace.

Louboutin is Spiked Out!

Spring and summer 2010 will be the season of studs thanks to shoe designer, Christian Louboutin! Both the women’s and men’s collections are covered in studs and of course, the classic red bottoms. On the men’s side, there are the Louis Sneaker - which is $1200 USD (not yet available) and the Freddy Flat, which works for men on the chicer side of things. For the ladies, the French designer has shown us the light at the end of the tunnel! The lustful Engin Spikes are to die for, but he also brings comfort to style with the Big Kiss and Siouxsie Flats. Sunday night’s American Music Awards show brought out artists from every generation of American Music. Gaga Screams for McQueen!

Lady Gaga has yet again blessed us with her unique fashion sense in her new video for single “Bad Romance” off her Fame Monster album. The aesthetics for the video are gaudy, as expected, but it’s the fashion that takes over from the beginning. A big fan of Alexander McQueen, Gaga has been photographed out in several different looks by the designer — she brings his Spring 2010 collection into fruition in this video. Alexander McQueen is best known for his eclectic style and his 10-inch “Lobster Heels” definitely set the bar on extreme high-fashion. Of course, the shoes will be toned down so they are wearable and functional and can be sold in retail, but would women really wear these? What do you think of the fierce, yet dangerous footwear?

Recession Proof with Payless and Christian Siriano

Christian Siriano, the Project Runway alum, debuted his Spring 2010 shoe collection for get this – Payless! Ankle booties, pumps and Mary Janes in shades of sand and blue were all over his runway and featured everything from straps to buckles to sequins. The line will be sold at Payless, who will tone the shoes down for the mass market, but big cities like NYC and LA will have original designs. Siriano also has a new book out Fierce Style, which is an autobiography/memoir and how-to (style tips, of course!) of fashion. This 23-year old was introduced to the world through reality TV, but he has a lot of experience and credibility within this industry, having worked with bigtimers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Be on the look out for this rising star, 15 minutes doesn’t seem to be enough for him.

The starlet has been seen on almost every red carpet from this years BET Awards to Elle’s Women in Hollywood scene and with each and every appearance, she has dazzled and looked phenomenal. Her classy, elegant style at times channels old Hollywood, but she brings a fun, youthful presence to every ensemble.

Hopefully this fab gal will be known worldwide in the Fashion Icon ranks soon enough.
