Melanie Fiona and Ryan Leslie performed at the Nokia Theatre over the weekend, and we were told that both were in rare form! Both of these artists bring something new and refreshing to the game in the form of TRUE talent, and we’re excited to see them both getting the attention that they deserve.

He’s already known as an entertainment artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. It’s no surprise to us that 50 has decided to be the next celeb in line to release his own fragrance. Power by 50 cent’s scent is described as strong, masculine and powerful, which evokes both the grittiness of 50 Cent’s origins and the heady rush that accompanied his rise to power.

For all of our New York readers (and readers throughout the country) that LOVE them some 50 cent, he’ll be making appearances throughout NYC and other large cities to introduce his new fragrance. Check out dates and locations after the jump:

Power by fifty cent will be available exclusively at Macy’s stores nationwide, beginning on November 5th. In honor of the launch, 50 Cent will be making appearances at five select Macy’s, starting in New York City’s Macy’s Herald Square. Consumers will have the chance to meet and take a picture with 50 Cent and be the first to purchase the new fragrance.

In honor of her album, The Bridge, being released exclusively on itunes on October 20th, she will be kicking off her first multi-city tour right in New York City on Monday, October 19th. Ryan Leslie Woos “Mystery” Woman with Transition + Upcoming Concert in NYC

It feels like Ryan Leslie JUST came out with an album (because, yes, we still have Ryan Leslie on repeat in the Ipod). But in less than a month (November 3rd), he’ll be dropping his sophomore album, “Transition”.

Showingout.com attended the listening session and said:

The album focuses almost entirely on Leslie (with the exception of a cameo from Clipse’s Pusha T on “Something That I Like”). Inspired by a tale of courtship, Leslie put his pen to the pad and crafted an electro-brushed R&B record that takes the listener on his journey of wooing this mysterious gal.

HipHopDX gave us some scoop on how Ryan Leslie came up with some tracks for Transition. And surprise, surprise, they were brought on by a woman:

Leslie explained key bits on Transition, starting with his initial meeting with his mystery woman during a rehearsal for his showcase at New York’s SOB’s earlier this year. Upon meeting her, he says, a melody came into his head that he couldn’t shake. That melody later became one of the album’s key tracks “Something That I Like.” In an effort to woo her, Leslie became absorbed in her varied musical tastes, leading to his creating the guitar heavy “Without You I’d Be Nothing.’ ‘We had a small challenge,’ he explained. ‘She had a boyfriend’.”

R. Kelly is coming to NYC, Will You Support Him?

R. Kelly is kicking off his East Coast tour in early October. He’ll be passing through New York City (Wamu Theatre at Madison Square Garden) on the 16th and 17th of next month. We won’t be attending this concert. It’s kind of hard to support a grown man who sings about relations with ——, you know what? Let’s not even go there.

If you have any plans on hitting up this concert, good for you! Let us know if you enjoyed it .

How did we miss this?

Lupe did his thing at Governor’s Island over the weekend. Wish we could have made it out there.

Also, for those that were wondering, Kanye and Lady Gaga DID NOT cancel their “Fame Kills” tour. Yes!
Although they’re not stopping in the immediate NYC area, they will be making a stop in Buffalo and Jersey. Guess we’ll have to settle for that.

In Case You Missed It- (Video): Jay-Z ’s 9/11 “Answer the Call” Concert Live on Fuse

We had the pleasure of attending Jay-Z’s 9/11 “Answer the Call” concert last night at Madison Square Garden (Shout out to Aleesha Smalls and Monee Perry on the tickets), and the energy in the place was like NO OTHER! Jay-Z performed some of his biggest hits for a full two hours (from 9pm – 11pm), and was joined on stage by the likes of superstars such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, John Mayer, Santigold, Kanye West, (Amber Rose was seen dancing on stage in the corner. You can’t miss her) Kid Cudi, Pharrell (Swoon!), and Swizz Beatz (Where was Alicia Keys though?).

Additionally, celebrity fans such as Justin Timberlake, Fabolous, Tina Knowles, Adrienne Bailon, Gov. Patterson, Angie Martinez, Miss Info, and Wale and J.Cole were spotted in the audience enjoying the show.

Watch Jay-Z perform Live on Fuse TV Tonight!

Jay-Z will be giving back to his hometown of NYC and the families of the victims of the 9/11/01 tragedy with a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden tonight. Entitled “JAY-Z LIVE FROM MADISON SQUARE GARDEN: ANSWER THE CALL,” the performance will benefit The New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children Fund with 100% of the proceeds from ticket and merch sales going to the families of the brave victims of September 11th.

Our boy Low Key over at Soundoff had an all access pass to see Fabolous rock the stage at Santos Party House (as we mentioned yesterday).

Low Key says it best: “The bouncers were aggressive, the street team was lethargic and the groupies were intact- typical NYC event. The crowd was mixed. Old, young, black, white, smart, dumb and everything in between.”

Since this event was announced on the number 1 hit radio station in NYC, Hot 97, over 1 millions times, we knew this event was going to be filled with groupies doing the “throw it in the bag dance” and bum rushing the doors.

Jay-Z Set to Play Madison Square Garden on 9/11

A HUGE Jay-Z billboard can already been seen on Madison Square Garden that announces Jay-Z’s highly anticipated 9/11 concert. Of course, this is also the release date for the equally anticipated The Blueprint 3.

“The events of September 11 challenged JAY-Z as an entertainer and a New Yorker. This charity concert serves as not just a reminder of the lives lost but as a look towards the future and the hope that arose on September 12. “This charity and concert encompass the true spirit of New York City,” commented Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter. “We are asking everyone to ‘answer the call’ and support and honor the families of those that lost their lives. There is a true camaraderie and resiliency this city showed the world in 2001 and we continue that today by taking care of our own.

For this live event, 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales and concert merchandise will go directly to “New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund.” Since its inception, New York Police & Fire Widow’s & Children’s Benefit Fund has distributed over $114 million to the families of New York City police and fire personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Though the Benefit Fund was initially created to assist families of New York City Fire Fighters and Police Officers, the non-profit now includes the families of Emergency Medical Services and Port Authority Officers as well. We can already imagine how CRAZY this concert is going to be, and we’re glad to see Jay-Z doing something so big for such an important cause.
