New Video: Toni Braxton & Trey Songz – Yesterday

Toni Braxton is back with a new album, new look, and new relationship status. The iconic R&B songtress has a new single “Yesterday” with one of our favorites, Trey Songz. After their whole make-out session at the Soul Train Awards this year, we were hoping for an “Invented Sex” sequel. However, that’s not what we got. The two don’t even appear together in the video, and it looks like they shot their scenes at different times.

Toni looks absolutely amazing in this video, and goes through wigs like water. We never saw this collaboration coming, but we sure do love it. Trey and Toni’s vocals together are like a “raspy heaven”. The video also has cameos from LA Lakers Shannon Brown, Ron Artest and Brooke Hogan.

Toni Braxton’s body is killing these 20-somethings…That’s a true DIVA! This video got us hype to see the Soul Train Awards now.

For years now we haven’t felt much excitement about a video release. Remember back in the late 90’s when MTV would have “Video World Premiere” and you’d be sitting infront of the tube, on the phone with your best friend, poppin’ some popcorn, and anxiously waiting for the video premiere of your favorite artist?

Well those days don’t really exist anymore, booty shaking and half naked women have taken over the music video scene… BUT.. these past two weeks have given us that feeling back. Lady Gaga’s recent video release of “Bad Romance”, and Melanie Fiona’s video for “Bang Bang” has definitely given us hope that good music AND music videos are back.

The preview clip that we posted earlier had us crazy anxious to see the “Video Phone” video in it’s entirety, and fortunately it was released before the day even ended.

Whew, Bey and Gaga sure to know how to keep us entertained. Check out the vid:

We just came across a teaser for Beyonce and Gaga’s Video Phone video, and don’t think we’re ready for how EPIC this video is going to me. Bey + Gaga! Are you serious?! Nevermind the fact that the clip was shot right in Brooklyn, and the song itself is nothing to play with!

New Video: Melanie Fiona – Bang Bang

Melanie Fiona is back with a follow-up single to her smash hit “It Kills Me” off her debut album, The Bridge. The new single Bang, Bang is a more uptempo blues track for the new soul singer signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation imprint and SRC/Universal Records.

We have been watching this girl since her emergence onto the scene, and just love her swag and her effortless vocals. We predict Melanie will just keep moving up from here. This wasn’t the best single selection in our opinion, but you really do get to see her range.

Event Recap: Lady Gaga Listening Session

Last night Interscope Records was nice enough to invite us to a listening session for Lady Gaga’s new album, The Fame Monster, and we, along with several other bloggers, and journalists, were able to preview it in its entirety.

If you were thinking about picking it up but wanted more info, check out our track by track commentary below:

1.) Bad Romance
This track is one that has been all over the internet, and one of the favorites off of the album because of the visuals in the video.

2.) Alejandro
We also placed this song on the site earlier. Gaga is really singing and showcasing her vocals in this Latin themed track about a love lost.

3.) Monster
This is definitely a hot dance track, and should be the next single. We could see this going off in a club in the meatpacking district.

4.) Speechless
This country influenced ballad somewhat put us to sleep, but again, shows that Gaga can really sing.

5.) Dance in the Dark
Another hot dance track, and one of the favorites in the room.

6.) Telephone (ft. Beyonce) – (Produced by Rodney “Darkchild Jerkins”)
Another favorite of the room, obviously because of the powerful collaboration, but Beyonce was really only on the track for like two seconds. It was kind of like she spit a quick verse, and then went on about her business, however, its undeniable that both Bey and Gaga are unstoppable! Can’t wait to see a video for this.

7.) So Happy I Could Die
The beat for this song was SICK, but that’s about it.

8.) Teeth (Produced by Teddy Riley)
The first thing that came to our mind when this track came on was how random it was for Teddy Riley to have produced it. (Seriously, where has he been?) However, its one of the more “soulful” songs on the album, and it was definitely catchy.

Stand out tracks: Alejandro, Monster, Dance in the Dark and Telephone.

Lady Gaga may seem a bit crazy, but you can’t deny that she makes hot music! Its not for everyone, but it is for us and we were sold!

Rihanna “Rated R” Album Preview (Updated w/ Russian Roulette Video)

With little over a week left before Rihanna drops “Rated R“, we got our hands on a preview of all the songs that will appear on the album. They may be only 30 seconds long, but you really get the feeling of Rihanna’s new musical direction.

We think overall its a solid album coming from someone with Rihanna’s vocal abilities, and she has improved a lot since she hit the scene. (Although some of her best work was on the “A Girl Like Me” album. That project was slept on big time!)

Since the preview video was taken down, we updated it with the official “Russian Roulette” video that just dropped. Hurry up and watch!

We are pleased to see that the album isn’t full of male bashing, suicidal, or anti-Christ songs, despite popular assumption. It’s actually a balance between several genres of music, which includes R&B, Pop, Rock, and Latin on the track “Te Amo“

Rihanna’s new album Rated R is set for release on November 23rd. Be sure you check the premiere of the video for “Russian Roulette” on ABC’s 20/20 on Friday @ 10pm!

Mariah Carey and Lady GaGa are back at it once again and set to re-release both of their albums. Lady Gaga is on fire right now, so this release is coming at a perfect time. Mariah’s album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” didn’t do so well, so she must be re-releasing it to bring more attention to the project. (Mariah’s album is dope, by the way.)

Mariah Carey also recorded a single called “100%” which was set to be on the “Precious” soundtrack but was later scrapped. The track was played on Hot 97 during the summer, but was never heard from again. The song has an awesome gospel vibe. Mimi vocals are amazing, you can’t deny that.

All we can say is that this is a legendary combo. It’s rare that two future icons get together on one song. Beyonce and Lady Gaga were very smart to link up. It cute that both songs are phone related.

2 Fab Women Come Out the Woodworks: Janelle Monae & Kid Sister

After having Diddy’s artist (who doesn’t get the recognition she deserves, in our opinion) Janelle Monae’s Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase on repeat for the past two years, we were happy discover that she revealed the name to her upcoming album which will be entitled The Ark Android. In the video below, she explains to SoulCulture the concept behind the album:

New Videos: LeToya Luckett + Dirty Money + Rihanna

Two new videos dropped today on the internet and a lil buzz video from Rihanna. First, LeToya Luckett dropped her highly anticipated video for her third single “Regret” of her album Lady Love.

This is probably one of the best songs off her album and we are so happy to see her still doing her thing after getting dropped from Capital Records. You better work it out mamas! The video co-stars Ludacris, and it’s good to see him back too.

Dirty Money is back with another video, this time they actually came hard. “Love Come Down” is the second single off their album “Last Train To Paris“. If you don’t know Dirty Money consist of Diddy, Dawn Richard of Danity Kane, and songwriter Kaleena.

Since the switch to Interscope Records the group has lost all the their hype. This video is dope, that “Angels” crap they put out was a FAIL…

Rihanna is promoting hard for her new album “Rated R“. She has been over every blog for the past month non-stop, and we have to say we can’t get enough of the girl. After seeing this video clip of her new video for “Russian Roulette” we really feel the album should have been called “Bad Girl Gone Crazy“…Mental Ward though?
