AllThatsFab.com Talks to Jagged Edge!

Jagged Edge was in NY this week painting the town red! They hit up several clubs, including Retox, Myst, Lotus, and Duvet, and they had a listening party last night at Legacy Studios. They were pretty busy, but still took the time out to sit down with AllThatsFab.com and chit chat about their upcoming album, “The Baby Making Project“, which will be in stores September 25th. I got to know a little more about Brandon, Brian, Kyle and Wingo, as they opened up about their album, the ladies, and more. They were very funny, friendly, talkative, down to earth guys, and I appreciate them taking the time out to talk to us. Lets move on to see what they had to say…
ATF: The name of the project is “Baby Making Project”. So, tell me more about this title.
JE: We came up in the day, when we would record our favorite songs off of the radio and put them on cassette tapes. You know, when you get to your lady friend’s house, and pop it in, it is what it is! We used to hope that she had her shoes off by the 5th song! (Laughs)
Honestly, there hasn’t been an album like that since Keith Sweat, or an R. Kelly “12 Play”, you know, mood music for the moment. We wanted to bring that back for this album.
ATF: I noticed that you’re going in a sexier, slower type of direction with this album. Can you tell me a little more about it?
JE: Well, a lot of our fans are coming up to us saying “Y’all make that baby making music!” Our fans are what is most important to us. At the end of the day, we gotta give our fans what they want.
ATF: Do you guys have any favorite songs on the album?
JE: Everyody has their favorites. (Wingo): My favorite is “Me That’s Who”. The reason being that the song was put together great, and I like what its talking about. (Brandon): I mean, mine changes every week.
ATF: Do you have any guest spots on the album? Any featured artists?
JE: Ashanti is on the first single, “Put a Little Umph in it”, but we wanted to give you all Jagged Edge.
ATF: Now, I’ve heard this single “Put a Little Umph in it”, and I have my own interpretation of the song. Now, let me hear YOUR interpretation. How did this song come about?
JE: Let’s hear YOUR interpretation! (Laughs)
ATF: Nooooo this is YOUR interview! (Laughs)
JE: What’s your interpretation of “Put a Little Umph in it”?
ATF: Well, my interpretation is that when you’re with a female, you’re asking her to put a little extra work in.
JE: (Brandon): Well, basically! That’s a nice interpretation right there! Let the fantasies pop off!
(Wingo): Well, my interpretation is this: The album is called, “The Baby Making Project”, for the respectful adults and the ones that do it the right way. At the end of the day, you can’t make a baby without puttin’ a little umph in it! I’ve heard women talk, and I know women talk bad about dudes! Either go hard or go home! that’s my new slogan!
ATF: You guys are one of the most popular groups out right now. How have you managed to stay relevent, and what separates you from everyone else?
JE: (Wingo):We’re the only ones here! Honestly, the thing that separates Jagged Edge from other groups is because we love what we do, at the end of the day. We breathe, sleep, (whispers) sh** music. Our goal at the end of the day is to become a household name. When you think about The Temptations, the New Editions, all of that, we want Jagged Edge to be in the same conversation.
(Brandon): Another thing that separates us is that even though we sing a lot of love songs, that women love, a lot of brothers love our music as well. I think the average R&B artists might alienate their male fans and we don’t do that. We speak from a male perspective and keep it real. We write our songs almost conversationally so that people can relate to them.
ATF: Now, this question is for the ladies. Do you guys have girlfriends?
JE: (Brandon): Nope
(Wingo): You see this? (Shows me a nice platinum wedding ring) I’m married!
Everyone else “no comment”.
ATF: Now I’ve heard that you all have been out and around tearing up the city of New York. Where are some of your favorite places to go in NYC?
JE: (Everyone): ANYWHERE WITH RAUL!!! We’re just out kickin’ it, man. We love interacting with the fans, being personable. You gotta go out and hug and kiss the fans, let them know you’re here! We gotta come see ya!!
Sidenote: Raul, the guy they are referring to, does radio and club promotions at Def Jam.
Later on that night, after the interview, we got a chance to hit up their listening party at Legacy Studios. A few celebs came through to show their support:

JE & AllThatsFab: Brandon, Aura, Necole, Brian

Wingo from Jagged Edge is definitely the liveliest one of the group! Love him!

Jermaine Dupri was there.

Trey Songz was there too! Here is he pictured with Necole Bitchie.
Great event! My only complaint was that they ran out of chicken and crab cakes before I got there.
I was so salty! Look out for “Baby Making Project” in stores September 25th!
