Converse Band Of Ballers: Jim Jones, Asher Roth…

Asher Roth, Jim Jones, and Mad Decent were among the few celebrities to compete against eachother in a basketball tournament yesterday in Manhattan. Converse was sponsoring the event and had some beautiful models posted around the court wearing converse outfits. Rosa Acosta was spotted looking quite fab in her Converse gear.

Unfortunately, ATF was not in attendance. But judging by Asher Roth’s and Jim Jone’s upbeat personality alone, this had to be a comical event.

Its Friday and we would like to give you some of our favorite videos and new music that’s had the internet going nuts this week!

Cassie hit us with the her new single, “Stamina“. Diddy is still rocking hard with these 80 Retro beats! We feel like throwing on our neon green leggings and a head band when we hear Stamina!

New York natives, Punchlyne and Fokis, teamed up with Teddy Roxpin (if this name sounds familiar, he’s also the producer of Asher Roth’s “Lark on my Go Kart“) and dropped a pretty hot track, “We Came to Rock“. Check out their myspace for more music here.

Jermaine Dupri and behind the scenes writer, Johnta Austin, got on Drake’s “So Successful” beat and as a result, released “SO SO Successful” . We are waiting for Johnta Austin to get his big break!

FAB female, Mitsue, has definitely been getting a buzz on the internet with her fly stlye and catchy lyrics over Dj Webstar’s “Dancing on Me“.

New York’s Finest Females Lil Kim and Teyana Taylor teamed up with Keri Hilson and released a remix to “Turn My Swag On“. Definitely gotta bump this in the car on your way to the club with the ladies!

Asher Roth – New Music – More Music Videos

This is a song I listen to at least once a day. Any track with Cee Lo on it is a hit, in my opinion. Asher’s making music videos left and right, but I’m especially happy he released “Be By Myself” , this is definitely one of my favorite tracks from “Asleep in the Bread Aisle“. Out of the ten “Freshmen” that were featured on XXL a couple months ago (including Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton, Asher..) who do you guys think is going to make it the furthest?

As most of you know, Asher’s album was released yesterday (4/20), so of course there was a party in celebration for the release of, “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” (and for all of the 4/20 smokers).

There was a thunderstorm all day yesterday, so I was really second guessing attending this event. But, I’m pretty familiar with New Yorkers to know that whether in rain or snow, the party must go on. So I drove through the typhoon towards Hotel Rivington where the party was being held, and boy am I happy I didn’t let the weather stop me….

As soon as I arrived at The Rivington, I knew there was going to be an issue getting inside the party. I heard people yelling “But, I’m on the list!” and watched as many people were turned away. ATF wasn’t on the list either (WTF!) but fortunately a friend of mine was running the door and let me in.

The party was held in the penthouse suite of the hotel, and as I exited the elevator I was expecting to walk into a room full of smoke (knowing how Asher gets down). But to my surprise, the smell of the “herb” was very faint, and the penthouse was absolutely gorgeous with windows overlooking the city. I felt like I was on top of NYC, lol.

Anyway, first things first–I went straight to open bar, and chuckled at the “Asher Roth” plastic red cups. The atmosphere was great; DJ M.O.S was on the 1’s and 2’s playing old school music mixed in with some tracks from Asher’s album. (I was too hype everytime he played “Lark on my Go-Kart”. ) You could tell when Asher walked in because the press went crazy. All I saw were the “flashing lights” and crowds of people, never saw Asher himself. Oh well…

Unfortunately, I’ve been cooped up in class all day so I wasn’t able to go out and cop that Asher Roth “Asleep in the Bread Aisle“, but I will pick it up tomorrow. I can’t wait to find out who sold more by the end of the week, Rick Ross or Asher? My mailbox has been full of Asher Roth promotions, but I found his interview with MTV to be especially cute. Check it out as Roth gives MTV a tour of his old college, gives us a look at where he used to sleep (in the basement), and how his “studio” was set up two years ago:

Yesterday, AllThatsFab.com’s Martine and Simone headed uptown for a music meeting with Asher Roth. This was a great experience, because we definitely have a new found respect for this guy. Asher is not all about smoking weed, drinking beer, and college parties—he’s actually one of the most intelligent and interesting people I’ve come across. There’s a deep story behind all of the tracks listed on his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, and I couldn’t help but bob my head to each and every song. My favorite tracks were “Lark On My Go Cart” and “His Dream ft Miguel“.(<—beautiful lyrics, really). Full review of the listening session & track listing after the jump:

The listening party was held at The Digiwaxx Office which is a cool intimate spot to hold events like this and the turnout was ridiculous, in a good way. We listened intently as he played tracks from his debut album and while we expected the explanations and interactions with the movers, shakers and bloggers of the music industry to be somewhat mechanical and routine, we got something completely different Asher is hilarious and his personality is relaxed and electric all at the same time. I think every rapper in this new school clique of hip hop should be fighting over who’s gonna be BFFs with Asher because they all need a little of his attitude. We talked about everything from divine intervention and being single to that infamous remake of D’Angelo’s “How Does It Feel” video.

Story Behind the D’Angelo Video:

Roth: “I am a HUGE fan of D’Angelo! I can listen to D’Angelo everyday, allday. One day we were just sitting around and my friend had mentioned to shoot a video similar to D’Angelo’s “How Does it Feel”. When April Fools Day came around, I was just like F**ck it! Let’s do this! I don’t care that I’m a little scrawny white boy!”
