Event Recap: Power 105.1 Powerhouse 2009

Let’s just start out by saying WOW! Last night, ATF (Ian Jarrell) attended Powerhouse 2009 hosted by NYC’s Power 105.1. The show included performances by Trey Songz, The Dream, Keri Hilson, and many more.

However, the man of the night was none other then Chris Brown, and this man proved why people was looking at him as the next Michael Jackson. Chris shut the show down as soon as he hit the stage. Saying this boy is amazingly talented would seriously be an understatement.

With the lack of buzz for this years Powerhouse, Power 105.1 still pulled off a good show and turnout. The first performers to hit the stage was Day26 of course. We didn’t get to see them perform but we heard they ripped the stage. Are they in the studio recording yet? We need to hear some new stuff from them.

The next up to show he still has it was Mario. We are so pleased to see he has grown his hair out. That whole bald head just wasn’t doing it for us. You can’t deny the boy has vocal skills, but as a performer he kind of lacks. His performance was overshadowed by his surprised guest which included Jim Jones and Red Cafe. He was really just trying to show NYC some love, and that is always good.

Miss Keri Babbbyyy….FAIL! All we can say is this woman needs to work on her vocals and stage performance a little more. If you want to dance please know how to. We love some of her songs, but she just ruins them when she sings them live. Keri Hilson is a talented fab female, she just lacks in certain areas; and those are some BIG areas.

The token rapper of the night was of course Fabolous. His set was just not the business for us. We love his new album so we expected so much more. Fab remained a typical rapper throughout the entire performance; pacing back and forth with no personality…FAIL! We still got love for Fab though.

On to the next one…On of our personal favs, Trey Songz, was the truly one of the crowds favorites as well. This man had “panties dropping” left and right. He sung hit after hit, but he didnt perform any of his classics from his first album, “Gotta Make It”. People don’t realize this man has been around for years, we are happy to see all the recognition he is getting lately.

The Dream was the next performer to grace the stage. We weren’t that hype to see him, but The Dream does have some bangs in his musical roster. He performed everything from “Rockin That Thang” to “Falsetto“. The best part about his performance was his dancer, them girls killed every move to every song. They kept our attention way more then The Dream.

Now for the star of the night! Chris Brown is the Prince of Pop, yes we know that’s a big title. But this kid is hands down the best male performer of today. he may not have the crazy vocals, but he can hold a note. There is no other male artist touching this boy on dancing. He was partially the reason that stadium was filled.

Chris Brown’s big comeback has been talked about for awhile, nobody really knew when it was gonna happen. he picked the perfect radio station and the best city to make it all happen. Chris Brown is back so either will deal with it or move right along.

ATF Exclusive Interview: Brutha

The R&B group Brutha is tired of being under-rated and over looked. They originally obtained commercial fame from having their own hit reality show on BET Brothers to Brutha, but that same show also seemed to have distracted viewers from their music. The Def Jam Records signees are now fighting for their voices to be heard among the stiff competition among boy bands. We chatted with the guys about how they dealt with Shakir Stewart’s (Def Jam) untimely death, being inspired by The Jackson 5, and their thoughts on Day26. We also put them through the “rumor mill”. ATF: So how have you guys been doing?

Brutha: We been doing great just grinding. The last project didn’t do as good as we hoped it would do. So we’ve been grinding it out to make sure that this next project is perfect. The album is coming really, really soon. It’s all about this music man.

ATF: So what has been the biggest change thus far with making this new album?

Brutha: Well first off, this album is more us. We weren’t allowed to be ourselves on the last album. But this time we have made a great body of work. So people are going to now here what we have inside.

ATF: So what is the production like on this album?

Brutha: This album is full on baby making music. (Laughs). We got Rick Ross on the album. The album is basically the stories of our lives.

ATF: So is their going to be a second season of the show, Brother to Brutha?

Brutha: Um No. We aren’t really focusing on reality shows right now. We are just focusing on our music. Last time we focused on that show and it kind of took away from the music. It’s just 100% about the music now.

ATF: So do you think that being on a reality show was a smart thing to do?

Brutha: Well yeah because it got us out there and got our foot in the door. It served its purpose then but we are on a different page now.

ATF: Now we know that Shakir Stewart of Def Jam was a big driving force behind you guys at Def Jam Records. How do you feel being at Def Jam without him being around anymore?

Brutha: It’s definitely hard without Shake being around. He was not only apart of our project, he was like family to us. We grew really close to him and learned a lot from him. It’s hard but he would want us to keep it pushing you know.

ATF: So where do you see Brutha in the next 5 years?

Brutha: Well we hope to still be making music and singing together. You know a lot of groups break-up when the get successful. We want to stay together and at least put out an album a year. We want to tour across the world and perform in front of millions of people.

ATF: So with the recent passing of Michael Jackson everyone memories of him are all over the place. A lot of people remember Jackson 5, which is pretty similar to you guys being that your all brothers. What did the Jackson 5 and MJ mean to Brutha?

Brutha: Man the most! The Jackson family period meant a lot to us. Our father use to make us copy everything Mike would do. He made us all learn the song “ABC” front to back. The Jackson 5 was the first inspiration for us.

ATF: So besides the Jackson 5, what other groups blue print do you follow?

Brutha: Most definitely Jodeci, also Boyz II Men and New Edition. We were influenced by every group that was considered great. Our dad was big on teaching us who the greats were.

ATF: Now you know there aren’t many groups that are out right now, besides like Day26. Who is really shutting it down right now. They just won Best Group at the BET Awards. What do you feel about being compared to them?

Brutha: There really is no comparison. We are brothers; we have been together since we were little. They are actually a manufactured group. You know they gotta eat and we gotta eat. Our goal is to take over the lane and that’s what we gotta do. We don’t think any of these groups messing with Brutha right now. We are taking it to another level. It ain’t no comparison to those guys and us. They gonna have to respect us at the end of the day.

ATF: Sounds like a MTV vs. BET rivalry to me.

Brutha: (Laughs) what ever you say man.

Rumor Mill

ATF: Now speak on this age mess Anthony.

Anthony: You know what man I always answers questions about that our first time around we aren’t even focused on that now. It’s like the age who cares. We just want people to focus on our music.

ATF: I am going to take that as a no comment. But readers mind are going to wonder.

Anthony: I hope not, I hope they just focus on our music.

ATF: Now another rumor that I have heard was that Grady was gay, down low, bi-sexual, whatever. Can you speak on those rumors?

Grady: The rumors are untrue. I am heterosexual! I love women and only women. Print that! We are all players, that’s not even a question worth answering.

Willie of Day26 Speaks On Leaked Peen Pic…

Well Willie of Day26 has something to say to the world in regards to his penis hitting the net last night. We know some ladies were hoping that they finally got a glimpse at what Willie was working with downstairs, but sorry ladies and some fellas, it’s a fake..Here is what Will had to say on the subject:

It is very unfortunate that someone would try to degrade my name by posting a fake photoshop image of myself on the internet holding what is alleged to be my penis. The alleged picture is my face, but the holding the penis part is not….

I am a man that has a family and have a tremendous amount of respect for myself, my son, my group and all of my fans across the world and I would never put them through such a predicament. So, in a nut shell, that picture is not me.”

Dawn & Que – Exclusive D.Blanks Photoshoot

These two are truly in love, guess people really can find love on reality TV. Dawn Richard & Que of Day26 recently did a photoshoot with celebrity photog Derek Blanks. D.Blanks is most known for his alter-ego shoots, which we love. He pulled out all the stops for these two lovebirds. We love the good vs evil theme. And we see Dawn pulling out her dominatrix side in one of the photos. We are definitely feeling Dawn’s new haircut, very edgy chic. It’s perfect for her face shape and new found swag. Fabulous Friday Music Review

Its Friday and we would like to give you some of our favorite videos and new music that debuted this week. Day26, Ciara, and Ace Hood have all released videos, and artists Mekka Don (Fab Man) and NYC based group, True 2 Life have released singles that has the internet buzzing. You can check out the videos and reviews after the jump..

It’s good to see Day26 getting the push they need. The boys have released a video for their latest single “Truth Is A Lie“. This is one of their best videos, its kind of low budget, but it’s not in front of green screen. They sound AMAZING on this track. They are becoming a very solid R&B group, we hope the take home the Best Group award @ the BET Awards.

Ace Hood is back with another inspirational street anthem, but this time he brought Jazmine Sullivan & Rick Ross along with him. When we say Jazmine looks stunning in this video that’s an understatement. The girl must have been hitting the gym hard to get ready for this video. The single is called “Champion“, and its off his latest album Ruthless…Ace Hood has come a long way since Cash Flow

Ciara has dropped another video for yet another single featuring Missy Elliot. Ciara, sweetie, you could have stepped it up a little more though. This time around she is hoping her track Work will help her sell some albums. The song is pretty dope, its very club worthy. We could have seen this on her Goodies album. The video reminds us a lot of Beyonce’s Diva. Its starting to look like Ciara is swagger jacking on purpose. She can dance her a$* off though. She sure doesn’t lack in that department.

True 2 Life Music recently jumped on Drake’s “Uptown” off his mixtape “So Far Gone”. True 2 Life states, “The original track featuring Lil Wayne and Bun B was one of our favorites from the tape, and we thought it would only be right to bless it with our own style/flare. So we did.”

Former Fab Man, Mekka Don, has definitely been making moves since we last spoke to him. He released a single this week with Bizzy Bone called, “IV The Love”:

New Video: Day26 – Stadium Music

Day26 is back with withn a new single off their album, Forever In A Day. The single is called “Stadium Music“, and its a pretty dope track. We wish they would have put more time and effort into the production, but the song is still hot, so that makes up for the lack luster video. We really want these boys to blow, they are the best boy band out as of now. The boys of Day26 are currently on tour to promote their latest album. ATF will also be attending their show at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, so be on the look out for that coverage. Enjoy the video!

Que of Day26 & Dawn Getting Married?!?

We just caught word that Que of Day26 and Dawn Richard plan on getting married. This news is very surprising because the two barely act like a couple. These two have been dating since they met on Making The Band 4, so they have passed the typical industry relationship time limit, and they would make an adorable couple. Dawn recently told ATF that the two of them are “amazing“. Yeah, that’s a pretty strong word. Check out what Que had to say about Dawn after the jump..

“One day I’m gonna marry her, She is so real. I want everybody to accept it. I know it’s hard with this industry because you got a lot of fans but, I am so in love, I want to have kids with this girl one day. I know I’ve found the woman I want to be with for the rest of my life.”

Dawn is reportedly going to be on tour with Diddy and their new group Dirty Money, for the album Last Train to Paris. Que is currently on tour with Day26 and J.Holiday.

Events: Making The Band 4 Press Night

Last week ATF got the chance to attend a press night which featured the girls of Danity Kane minus Aundrea and Day26. The event was mad cool and entertaining. We all gathered in a small room and interviewed the former Danity Kane members, and the crazy boys of Day26. We got really up close and personal with the bands. After the jump you will see exclusive pictures from the press room and a surprise video. Hope you enjoy

This was probably one of the smoothest press events I have ever been to. Everything was extremely organized and relaxed. MTV did a really good job putting this all together, but they could have decorated that conference room or something lol…The first that came into the room was Aubrey O’Day, my hands down favorite. She is just so raw and open, that sounds a lil freaky but that’s Aubrey. She just has this Don’t Give A F**K attitude, that you can’t help but love and respect. In the video you will hear Aubrey rap and why she hasn’t spoke up about the downfall of Danity Kane. We also learned that Aubrey will be appearing in her own show on Broadway, and will be executive producing her own reality show, starring none other than, herself.

Next to enter the fire pit of reporters was Shannon Bex. She was pretty much the boring one of the day, but what do you expect. She did look really nice I must say. She was the only one out of all the girls that has decided to leave music alone for awhile, she never sand much on the album anyway. She did mention about wanting to try country music, because of the longevity in the genre.

D.Woods was next to be in spotlight. She came in just energize and excited to have some attention. I really love how happy she came off. D.Woods during the interview revealed that she is releasing her own solo album, and that her single will be dropping this summer. She even gave us a sneak pick of her first single during the press event. You can listen to that in the video also.

The last one standing and the new queen at Bad Boy, Dawn Richard, came in to speak with us next. this woman has one of the greatest spirits and attitudes. She is just so geniuine and sweet, it hard to believe that she actually played a part in the downfall of the group. She was just so open about the whole Danity Kane situation. I love that she is still doing her thing at Bad Boy. She will be in a group called Dirty Money alongside Diddy. She is featured on The Last Train to Paris, which she wrote and sings on every track. I can’t even knock her for doing her thing and staying grounded.

The best interview of the night was hands down Day26. These boys are just simply wild and crazy, and you got to live it. They are really excited about their new album, which is the ish in my opinion. Day 26 is really slept on by the music industry, and that is truly ashame. once you meet the guys you can’t help but love them. Mike, Robert, and Brian are the funniest dudes in the group. You never know what they are going to say out their mouths. They all have a brotherly relationship, which makes me question all that drama on this past Making The Band 4 season.

Overall I had a really great experience sitting down with all the guys and gals. We at ATF wish them all the success in the world. I wonder what life after Bad Boy is going to be like for all of them? We have all see what happen to Da Band..You can check out the video and more pics below:

Day26 recently sat down to chat it up with Angela Yee on her Lip Service radio show. Now when I tell you these boys are some freaks, I mean they are freaks. Big Mike and the other guys were very vocal about their sex life with Miss Angela. They are some of the funniest dudes to watch and listen to.
