Common and The Roots at at Terminal 5, right here in New York City. Along with this highly anticipated event, came several celebrity guests, high energy performances by legendary artists, aerial stunt performers during performance breaks, and a constant flow of Hennessy Cognac all night! Pics and video of performances below.

Not including the extreme disorganization at the door, (won’t even get into that, because its not important) the event was a great one. You can’t really go wrong with a free concert with performances by some of the biggest names in hip hop.

We actually left before the performance by Queen Latifah and Q-Tip, but we did see Q-Tip as we were exiting the venue. We also heard that Queen Latifah’s performance was pretty epic.

Yes, you heard right, folks! Common and The Roots are on board for the Hennessy Artistry Tour, which will be making stops in Chicago (9/12), Atlanta (9/19) and finally New York (”HALO” @ Terminal 5 10/7). (Hennessy is really doing the damn thing, aren’t they?)

Says Common:
“Hennessy is the master of blending, and Artistry, is all about artistic blends of music genre, culture and style. The lineup is coming together nicely. The Roots and I are really collaborating to create a musical blend of talent that will do Artistry justice. We are planning some surprises as well, it should be quite an experience and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z were spotted on Monday night as they attended The Roots Jam Session at Highline Ballroom. They didn’t perform or host the event, but rather they just stayed low key and behind the scenes.

Regarding the claim that NYC club, M2 (aka Mansion) has put out there saying that Beyonce cancelled a performance at the last minute, her reps are adamantly denying it. Seriously, why would Beyonce perform at a club like M2 when she is performing for the President and packing out stadiums, and arenas?

“Executives at Beyonce’s label Music World/Columbia Records are adamant it is Morrissey’s fault for falsely advertising the show with a performance by the beauty – instead of her sister Solange, who was due to sing at M2.

A company spokesperson says, “Beyonce never had a contract with the club itself and no one in her camp dealt directly with the venue.

“The superstar was never scheduled to perform, but was to serve as a co-host and introduce singer/songwriter Solange’s performance. Patrons were falsely promised a performance by Beyonce.”

Now this makes a lot more sense. The club may just be trying to use her name for press. Who knows…

We hit up the OkayPlayer.com Christmas party last week, and had a good time. We were able to catch performances from The Roots, Q-Tip, Bilal, Talib Kweli and more. However, we also heard from word of mouth that Jim Jones tried to make an appearance at the show, but was denied access. I didn’t witness this in person, but thanks to Miss Info, we have footage of the the incident. Check it out, in case you missed it. I don’t care what anyone says, I actually like Jim Jones. I find him to be HILARIOUS! How is security just gonna do him like that?
