55-year-old Kevin Coughlin was blind for close to 20 years, suffering from Leber Optic Neuropathy, a hereditary condition that impairs and destroys optic nerve cells, according to CBS New York. Then one morning, Coughlin woke up and said he would see, even looking in the mirror and noticing shapes and light.
